Hello! If you are reading this post, you are interested in the running club in Winona MN! WELCOME! I would like to get feedback from everyone as to what correspondence you are in need of. My thoughts include having categories including:
5K Training
Marathon Training
Morning Training
Races Coming Up
etc….I can add them as we need em!!
The initial thing I really need is to know what days and times work for everyone for the group runs and meetings. I also need to inquire as to a fair annual membership fee to cover items such as postage, shirts, flyers etc.
THEN if you guys could start commenting and responding to comments that would be great!! Let’s get a community going here and encourage others to join us!
Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing you all soon! Check out the other stuff on this blog also! Yoga, resistance training….

I currently have been doing a Couch to 5k training program and have been running on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. I generally work until 3pm and run sometime between 3:30 and 5:30. I’ve never done anything like this, so I don’t know what memberships normally go for. I won’t be able to do this if it’s too high because I don’t have a large income.

I am looking at doing a half marathon in the fall, possibly the Oktoberfest HM. I would like to do runs on Saturday mornings. I have completed one HM last summer and finished in 2:35…so I am no speed demon, but I do have stamina to go longer distances. I am currently signed up for the BK 5K in June. Would love to finish in under 30 minutes. That has been a goal for me since I started running about 4 years ago. I would love to get shirts and wouldn’t mind paying a fee for them and for a memebership. Not sure what the normal price of a membership is for something like this.

This is Jennifer! Mandy, I think we are about the same speed, so would love to meet up! I am hoping for a 2.5 hr half time this year. Yes, the plan to do the BK in under 30 is a good one. A few years ago, I could consistently do them under 30, but once I turned 40, I have slowed down. I am not much of a morning person, but what time are you thinking on Saturdays???
SARA- We are thinking along the lines of like $10 or $15 a year to cover our costs of printing flyers, postage for mailings…nothing big! Hope that is helpful!

I am in for the fee. I would love Saturday morning runs– they are the easiest to incorporate in a schedule for me. I can attend some Wednesday night runs, but not all, since I have previous commitments. I just completed my big goal for this year, so I’m taking some time to decide on a new one– maybe another tri.

I would be fine with paying a fee as well. I am a former college runner, but I’ve been out of team running for a little over a year so I am looking for a group of runners to run with to keep myself motivated. As far as training goes I would be game to train with anyone who is going to run consistently. Speed isn’t really an issue I can adjust to faster or slower speeds. As far as race plans in the future the only one I am looking at currently is the Goodview gallop, but I would be open to train for other races and distances as well.

Jennifer – I like to get my runs in earlier in the morning on Saturdays, especially longer runs. I would like to run around 7-8am. I have not really been running as consistently as I should be, so meeting up with other people would really help to keep me motivated. $10-$15 would be fine with me.
Sara- The Couch to 5k program is the same program I used to start running. It was great and I hope it works as good for you as it did for me. Keep it up!

I don’t have any plans as far as races right now. As many of you know I have an 18 month old and just haven’t really gotten back into running since she was born. I coach soccer, but not the same! I am not in this for the speed training as much as just the exercise and hopefully get back into doing the 5Ks and at some point a 1/2 and full marathon. My schedule varies quite a bit. If I have my daughter I prefer later runs in the evening…7pm or 8pm…because by then she has calmed down. Otherwise Saturday mornings would work as well.
As for a fee, something like 10-20 would work.

Thanks for organizing us Jennifer! I won’t be able to make it next Wednesday since I am out of town, but I will be there June 4.
Are there any runners that go at a 8-9 minute mile pace? Here is my running story: I usually run four to four and a half miles a few times a week (and cross train on off days), but would like to do some longer runs especially on weekends. I am not currently training for a race, but plan to run the BK 5K and Goodview Gallop for fun. I would also like to do a 1/2 marathon or sprint triathlon possibly in the fall. I have only done one marathon (Chicago) and think my knees prefer the lesser distances. Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings are usually good times for me to run. I might start doing some weekday morning runs as the temps rise this summer. I do like the lake, but also enjoy the trails at Saint Mary’s University.
Happy holiday weekend!

Until last year, I was a group fitness kind of girl. January 2007, I tried running and fell in love. I worked my way up to a 25 minute 5K and a 2:10 HM. I was considering the big M for this summer, but my plans were dashed when I got into a car accident that really messed up my neck. So I’m in rehabilitation mode. If I run too far or too fast, I hurt. I have finally healed enough (with the help of acupuncture and patience) to run the small lake at an 11 min. pace.
My plan is to attempt the BK5K with the humble goal of finishing.
I prefer morning runs (I’m a heat wimp.)
I’ve always run alone (with and without my iPod) but am willing to try a partner or group run.
I come from a fitness background (used to teach a host of classes at the YMCA) and enjoy walking, biking, yoga and recreational sports.
I have a limitless tolerance for running/fitness/health talk, so if anyone wishes to discuss training plans, fitness goals or anything health related, I’m willing to go for a bike ride or walk on our cross-training days and chat it up.

Hi Katrina-
I saw your post and have been meaning to email/call you. I would love to run together; you noted a 8-9 minute pace; which would be perfect. I am certainly in for that as well as trading off road running for trails at SMU. I don’t own trail shoes yet but completed a trail marathon in KY in regular running shoes (no, it wasn’t pretty) but ended well anyway. I can usually run after 4pm weekdays and Sat/Sun mornings. I prefer early runs as I am not a great fan of high temperature running.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Julie

Mollee, Jennifer and Mandy, Hi I’m Patty, and I’m also training for a 1/2 marathon may “09 (i’m giving myself lots of time). I’d to meet up with anyone up for a run, walk, or run/walk mix I did a half marathon last yr in 2:20min, so I’m no speed demon, and at 40 I think I’m slowing down. Mollee, give partner running a try, while solitary running can be reflective, partners add a nice change of pace and a great cardio boost. It takes a bunch of energy to run and talk. Hope to hear from you.

I definitely am interested in getting started in jogging but the only time I’m able to do it during the day is between 5:00 – 5:45am. I am looking for someone who can either jog with me at that time (I’m just starting so I’m very slow!) or who can encourage me to get up and do it, because right now my biggest struggle is getting out of bed that early to do it.
If you know of an early riser who is looking for a (slow) jogging partner, please let me know. I live on the west end of Winona (near the high school). THANK YOU!

I am interested in setting up Tuesday PM track workouts, probably at Winona high school. Is anyone interested in doing speedwork?

I’m in for the speedwork! Tuesday’s are good. I would prefer a later time in the evening. Would 7:00 P.M. work for those interested?

I would love to join in for the Saturday morning runs too! Like Katrina and Julie, I run about an 8-9 min. mile and would love to run with anyone other than my current running partner who is an 85 lb black lab! (She doesn’t seem to want to talk!) I’m up for the SMU trails too. If you decide on a meeting time for Saturday, please email me at lthorsel@smumn.edu.
Thanks!!

Hi Everyone!
Is there anyone in the Fountain City area interested in getting together? We could run along the river or up at the school. With the Winona bridge closing I’m not able to get to Winona to run which is a huge bummer. If things change in the future I hope to catch up with the Winona club. Email me at lthorsel@smumn.edu if you want to run in the Fountain City, Cochrane, or Buffalo City area.
Thanks!

I would love to do some trail running at a 8-9 min pace. I probably need to do some speed work also. I can probably work in Tuesday nights. I have just started training for the Twin Cities Marathon and have a lot of work ahead of me.

Nate,
trail running on Tuesdays works for me! I am out on July 8, but should we plan on July 15? Do you prefer SMU or Holzingers? Let me know!

Hi Sue,
Yes, we are still meeting at 5:30pm at Lake Winona Lodge. There is also a new website at http://www.winonarunningclub.com with a message board, so some folks are putting other times out there now….
I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!!
